Fun with paint...

I went on RateMySpace today hoping for a little get up and clean inspiration...instead I painted my master bathroom's water closet. Ooopsie.
I used all left over paints and ended up with a color I'm really happy with.

I started out with this color:

Glidden's Cool Dip in daughter's bathroom

(ignore that print - it's temporarily there...which means it'll be there for years and years and years)

mixed in two plops of Martha Stewart's Shiraz (from front door), and one plop of Behr's Tate Olive (accent color in family room) and ended up with this shade:

greyish-pale-robin's egg but not really blue

It goes nicely with the Glidden Sea Sponge in the main area of the master bath and bedroom. We had painted it a chocolate brown color that made it too dark/dank/depressing. I love chocolate brown rooms, but it just didn't work in this little closet of a space.

Great way to use up leftover paint. Some might even call me green.

Have you ever mixed up your own paint colors before? Or do you have any favorite paint color stand-bys you use regularly?

lol. I am notorious for mixing paints. I had one time that I had to have matched and they had to add like 25 colors just to get it right. I could open my own paint color store. My latest favorite though is just a regular old paint color from a paint chip.

Great color btw.

wow, absolutely...but i thought i was the only one doing it! i mixed a grey from a rental bedroom w/ the lightest blue-grey from another rental livingroom...and now it is my bathroom color...
(see september 2007 on my blog)
and we did the same thing on our
vent on front of house, mixed stuff until we got what we wanted..easier than standing in line for yet another color.
i like your bath color!

I'm impressed with your bravery! For some reason, painting is so scary to me. Well not the action of painting, but making the choice of color that seems so permanent. I don't know exactly why, but it freaks me out!!!

Love both paint colors you've shown. I have paint splotches on my wall that are three years old because I can't freakin choose the one I like the best. Love yours.

Both rooms turned out GORGEOUS...that first color is really close to our TV room shade...and we love it! I've mixed a few over the years....but it bites if you run out and need another gallon! My favorite color of all time is Sherwin Williams Northampton putty. I swear half our house is painted that color.

Wow. The mixed paint turned out beautifully. I've never mixed paints...I'm always to scared to need more to finish and not match the color right again.

Hello Natalie,

Thanks for the visit to my blog and the friendly comment. I can't say we have mixed a lot of paint colors, but we sure do have a whole lot of BEHR PAINT.

Best of luck with your projects.

I always mix the colors especially the leftovers. Most of the time, they come out gorgeous. I paint my own walls. If I don't like the product, it won't be long until I repaint. It's fun playing with colors.

That looks great. I've never mixed my own paint for the walls. Good idea!

Oh yes, I am a regular mix-ologist. I come by it honestly, my father is a printmaker and we have true pigments in his studio. But I have absolutely no problem adding a blob of black paint - yes, black! to any colour... it just deepens it nicely.

Natalie, I'm SO impressed! This color is beautiful. I've never thought to mix my own--and I have a feeling that if I did, it wouldn't come out nearly this pretty.

Maybe I need to visit RateMySpace, since I have a hundred house projects around here and I'm currently working on NONE of them. Maybe it would inspire me, too! :-)
